Michael Martin

Coach Mike’s first experience with CrossFit was in the Army. His unit had started implementing CrossFit into their physical fitness training as they were gearing up for a deployment to Iraq. After noticing the improvement CrossFit had on his troops he went to GSX CrossFit to get his CrossFit L-1 Cert in April of 2009. Once deployed he and his unit built their own box and did what they could with the equipment they had which meant a lot of “Murph”. After a second deployment Coach, Mike took over as Head Coach for Centurion CrossFit Fort Hood. He knew after taking over as Head Coach what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. Just 8 months after being Honorably Discharged from the Army he affiliated Mad Apple CrossFit in Fort Wayne. Now you can find Coach Mike trying to avoid any WOD with Pistols.

Lesly Martin

Lesly has always been interested in physical fitness and a very active person since she was young; hiking, running, swimming, snowboarding, yoga and kayaking are a few of the activities that she has pursued over the years and still enjoys. She moved to Fort Wayne in 2010 to pursue a Bachelors in Exercise Science, and after running several half marathons and suffering from chronic runner’s knee she started looking into CrossFit. Her first class at Mad Apple in 2013 was amazing; she quit running after that and started solely doing CrossFit. Over the last 5 years she has been amazed at what our bodies can accomplish with good nutrition and functional movement training. As a coach it is her aim to help clients reach goals that they never thought possible; whether it is losing weight, getting their first pull-up or simply liking what they see in the mirror.

Vicki Toth

Bored of her running routine and occasional gym-going routine, Coach Vicki stumbled upon CrossFit after a few friends’ posts on Facebook and Twitter caught her eye.  She walked into her intro class intimidated and not knowing what to expect.  At that point, she never would have known how great an impact CrossFit would have on her life.  There is nothing else out there like CrossFit.  Not only are the workouts geared to bring your body to its peak in fitness, but the CrossFit community is what brought her back week after week.  Every time she came to the box, she was surrounded by like-minded people who love being there just as much as she did.  In no other gym has she felt the same type of camaraderie.  CrossFit is something that has become a major part of her life.

Emily Brown

Emily was never what you’d call an athletic kid. She always liked being active, but a connective tissue disorder slowed her down and had her in a wheelchair off and on through growth spurts in middle school. In 2015, after being mostly sedentary for several years, she was the heaviest she had ever been and miserable. Her best friend, an avid crossfitter, moved in with her for a couple months and Emily tagged along to Mad Apple with her. After dying during the intro class, she couldn’t wait to come back. The encouragement of the coaches and other members of the community made her feel a part of Mad Apple from day one; while the capacity to improve and grow in every aspect of fitness spoke to her on many levels. CrossFit has been the best physical therapy she has ever had. Emily has lost 50 pounds and capable of more than she ever imagined. When she is away from the box, she runs a custom leather working company, M Bar M Leather Design, and tries to keep up with her 30 nieces and nephews.

Nothing Kaleb has accomplished this far goes without giving the glory back to God. Kaleb has been a gym rat for years, but has recently had the joy of falling in love with CrossFit. Adam Greene

I’ve been involved in competitive sports since I was a kid. I started lifting weights in my neighbor’s garage at age 13. In high school, I wrestled and played football. I continued playing football in college at the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne. In 2010, one of my former college teammates told me about CrossFit. I was skeptical, but I tried it out in my college weight room. I was immediately hooked. I began following CrossFit.com workouts on my own, and in 2012, finally joined an affiliate. Around the time I began having an interest in coaching CrossFit, the opportunity arose to do so full time. I coached full time for 2 years, including a year at CrossFit Kansas City, one of the first 10 CrossFit affiliates. After moving back to Fort Wayne in fall of 2015, I began coaching at Mad Apple, and I’ve called this place home ever since. When I’m not at the gym or work, I am riding my bicycle around town, umpiring little league baseball, or hanging out with my daughter, Camryn.

Carmen McGee

I discovered CrossFit in 2011 at the age of 40, two months shy of my 41st birthday and it never, ever occurred to me that I was too old for this sport; instead of being intimidated I was hooked. Before CrossFit I was a competitive triathlete and runner, I’ve been athletic my whole life, I am very competitive and once I tried CrossFit I felt it was what I had been searching for perpetually. I have won two masters competitions, a “regular age” team competition with Coach Mallory, and placed 5th at the 2014 Granite Games. I have a super hot husband who also does CrossFit and two daughters, ages 11 & 9; they can both deadlift, burpee, and clean in jerk, and they write their own WODS! In my free time away from the gym I am the co-owner, sommelier and event coordinator for The Golden Restaurant located in Down Town Fort Wayne.

Kurt Patterson

I found CrossFit in Oct 2010 while preparing for the Chicago Urbanathlon and was immediately addicted. I earned my CrossFit Level 1 Certificate in May 2011 and have been leading classes ever since. I am very goal driven and thrive on competition. I enjoy helping others succeed and have a passion for coaching. I retired from coaching basketball in 2015 after 24 years to spend more time with my family and focus on my fitness. My beautiful wife, is also member at Mad Apple. I have 2 daughters who are both married and living in Indianapolis with their husbands and my 3 grandsons. And a 4th grandson will be here soon. Austin Beer

Coach Austin first got into CrossFit while training with his brother in his garage. His first official CrossFit WOD at Mad Apple was composed of his least favorite movements; Thrusters, pistols and rope climbs. He quickly fell in love with CrossFit and knew he was interested in becoming a coach. Austin started at Mad Apple as an intern, then after passing his certification, he began to fill-in for classes and eventually was given classes of his own. He relishes in pushing members to do more than they previously believed they could. Being surrounded with like-minded individuals in the Mad Apple community is what Austin owes his passion for CrossFit too.

Mark Voss

Coach Mark was introduced to CrossFit in late winter of 2012, a big boned 285lb 30 year old looking for a change in health and lifestyle. Mark was able to find this at Guerrilla Crossfit and after about a week resigned a year contract upgrading unlimited and continued to go an average of 4 days per week. Since joining Mark is down about 70lbs in weight and lives a much better life because of Crossfit. Mark grew up playing sports such as Football, Soccer, Baseball and Golf through high school. Maintained a vague fitness resume from 2001-2012 dabbling in various forms of fitness including weightlifting, powerlifting, highland games and golf. Mark enjoys watching the successes that come with this sport. The competition, at all levels, is exciting and keeps me wanting to learn more, becoming better myself, and share what I have learned. Mark primarily coaches and attends the 5AM and 6AM classes. He is 39 years old a CF-L2 Trainer passing the testing Level 2 in July of 2016. For my day job, I am the Senior Supervisor for A&Z Engineering.

Jordan Saalfrank

Jordan was introduced to CrossFit six years ago by a friend and at first, only had intentions of using it to achieve personal weight loss goals. She quickly fell in love with the community of support, the physical challenge of completing workouts and found that she became hooked on improving her overall functional fitness and health longevity. Six years later, and the CrossFit community continues to be one of the BEST facets of her fitness journey. Jordan was a competitive figure skater and played volleyball in middle school and high school. She worked to stay physically active in college by joining her sorority’s Little 500 bike team and raced for two years. After finishing her Master of Social Work degree in NYC, Jordan and her husband returned to Fort Wayne to start a family. Three boys, 17yrs – 12yrs, and a girl, 8yrs, keep the family in a fast-paced schedule. Jordan has had an active roll in the childbirth community for the last 15 years and recently took a break to partner up and start GAINZ Meal Prep, which serves Fort Wayne, Huntington and Warsaw fresh, no-bull, healthy & flavorful macronutrient calculated meals.

Alex Baer

Alex discovered CrossFit after he found out that the Anytime Fitness he went to religiously was closing its doors. Alex joined Mad Apple as a member back in the fall of 2014, and he was immediately hooked. The atmosphere during a CrossFit workout had been not like anything he had experienced since high school sports. The more he got involved with the community, the more they showed him how much someone can actually do as a human being both inside and outside of the gym. After a few years in and starting to realize he loved helping people achieve their goals, he decided it was time to get his certification to coach. After getting his certification it really opened his eyes even more than the overall community of CrossFit, and how being surrounded by motivated and like-minded people who push you to be better every day, is one big core reason this type of program is able to stick with people. It creates a passion and community for working out like nothing else can.
